Vrad has broad experience across the medical device life cycle to conduct needs-based evaluations of early-stage projects as well as contributing across the range to transfer to manufacturing in the systems engineering team. Vrad has expertise in cardiovascular, neurovascular, ophthalmic, and otologic implants and delivery systems. He enjoys early-stage strategy, ideation, and prototyping all the way through design control to design validation. Most recently Vrad was a project lead at The Foundry medical device incubator, and Head of Device R&D at Spiral Therapeutics, a startup out of Foresight Labs incubator, where his generation of a patent portfolio (10+ provisional applications) brought in significant investment.
Vrad was a 2018/2019 Biodesign Innovation Fellow at the Stanford University Byers Center for Biodesign and earned his PhD at Duke University in biomedical engineering while developing a patented anti-biofilm and anti-infection catheter. Prior to his PhD he was a medical device engineer for almost a decade after receiving a Honors Chemical Engineering BS from UT Austin.
Vrad has two issued patents and 20+ provisionals and applications in various stages of the process.
